Walking through the white alleys of the old town, on the road leading to the shrine of St. Michael the Archangel, we come to one of the most mysterious and fascinating monuments: the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Tumba.
Incorrectly called Tomb of Rotari - due to incorrect translation of an inscription in which appear the names of the founders: Rodelgrimo and Pagano - the Baptistery is part of the monumental complex of St. Peter, which also includes the church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The building, probably built around the twelfth century, is formed by a prism with a square shape with two rows of windows and numerous sculptural decorations illustrating the Passion of Christ, some biblical scenes characterized by the intervention of angels and the representation of deadly sins.
